Phenotypic Responses to Selection for Ultrafine Wool in Uruguayan Yearling Lambs

چکیده

This study evaluated the phenotypic trends for wool and growth traits of fine Merino genetic nucleus in Uruguay. Data were collected from one-year-old lambs over a twenty-year period (1999–2018). The overall aim selection flock was to reduce fiber diameter with concomitant increases fleece live weights. Traits analyzed included (FD), greasy weight (GFW), coefficient variation FD (CVfd), staple length (SL), scoured yield (SY), post-shearing (LW), eye muscle area (EMA) fat thickness (FAT). approximately 5300 male female analyzed. During period, decreased by 3 µm, whereas GFW LW increased at least 0.5 3.0 kg, respectively. There interactions between sex individual year all traits. Except FAT, other affected dam age. indicates that program applied resulted reductions LW. Therefore, results indicate it is possible produce ultrafine semi-extensive grazing systems without compromising economically relevant lambs.

Selection for ultrafine Merino sheep in New Zealand: heritability, phenotypic and genetic correlations of live weight, fleece weight and wool characteristics in yearlings

Merino yearling records from 1988 to 1992 birth years in ultrafine wool selection and random control flocks at Tara Hills High Country Station, New Zealand were analysed for live weight, fleece weight and wool characteristics. Estimates of heritability, genetic and phenotypic correlations among traits using REML methods are presented. Heritabilities (h2) of birth, weaning, autumn, spring and su...

The data set used in this study contained 8793 records of lamb's longevity (days) from 320 sires and 2349 dams collected during 1989 to 2014, from the Lori-Bakhtiari flock at Shooli station in Shahrekord, Iran. Genetic parameters (partitioned into autosomal, sex-linked and maternal) and breeding values of cumulative lamb's longevity from birth up to yearling age (at 1, 2, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months)...

Direct and correlated responses to selection for yearling weight on reproductive performance of Nelore cows.

Data from a selection experiment for growth carried out in Brazil were analyzed in order to evaluate the direct responses on yearling weight (YW) and the correlated responses on the size and reproduction traits of cows. The experiment was started in 1976, and in 1980 three lines of Nelore cattle were established: selection (NeS), traditional (NeT), both selected for higher YW, and control (NeC)...

Direct and maternal genetic responses to selection for weaning or yearling weight or for yearling weight and muscle score in Hereford cattle.

An experiment involving crosses among selection and control lines was conducted to partition direct and maternal additive genetic response to 20 yr of selection for 1) weaning weight (WWL), 2) yearling weight (YWL), and 3) an index of yearling weight and muscle score (IXL). Maternal response was estimated from reciprocal crosses among unselected sires and dams of control (CTL) and the selection...
